Solution and stability of continuous-time cross-dimensional linear systems

Qing-le Zhang, Biao Wang, Jun-e Feng,zqlcfc03@163.com,wangbiao9956@163.com,fengjune@sdu.edu.cn

Frontiers of Information Technology & Electronic Engineering 2021, Volume 22, Issue 2,   Pages 141-286 doi: 10.1631/FITEE.1900504

Abstract: We investigate the solution and stability of continuous-time linear systems (CCDLSs) with dimension bounded by and . Using the integral iteration method, the solution to CCDLSs can be obtained. Based on the new algebraic expression of the solution and the Jordan decomposition method of matrix, a necessary and sufficient condition is derived for judging whether a CCDLS is asymptotically stable with a given initial state. This condition demonstrates a method for finding the domain of attraction and its relationships. Then, all the initial states that can be stabilized are studied, and a method for designing the corresponding controller is proposed. Two examples are presented to illustrate the validity of the theoretical results.

Hydration, microstructure and autogenous shrinkage behaviors of cement mortars by addition of superabsorbent

Beibei SUN, Hao WU, Weimin SONG, Zhe LI, Jia YU

Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering 2020, Volume 14, Issue 5,   Pages 1274-1284 doi: 10.1007/s11709-020-0656-x

Abstract: Superabsorbent Polymer (SAP) has emerged as a topic of considerable interest in recent years. The present study systematically and quantitively investigated the effect of SAP on hydration, autogenous shrinkage, mechanical properties, and microstructure of cement mortars. Influences of SAP on hydration heat and autogenous shrinkage were studied by utilizing TAM AIR technology and a non-contact autogenous shrinkage test method. Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) was employed to assess the microstructure evolution. Although SAP decreased the peak rate of hydration heat and retarded the hydration, it significantly increased the cumulative heat, indicating SAP helps promote the hydration. Hydration promotion caused by SAP mainly occurred in the deceleration period and attenuation period. SAP can significantly mitigate the autogenous shrinkage when the content ranged from 0 to 0.5%. Microstructure characteristics showed that pores and gaps were introduced when SAP was added. The microstructure difference caused by SAP contributed to the inferior mechanical behaviors of cement mortars treated by SAP.

Autoimmunity in acute ischemic stroke and the role of blood—brain barrier: the dark side or the light one?

Nikolay V. Tsygan, Alexandr P. Trashkov, Igor V. Litvinenko, Viktoriya A. Yakovleva, Alexandr V.

Frontiers of Medicine 2019, Volume 13, Issue 4,   Pages 420-426 doi: 10.1007/s11684-019-0688-6

Abstract: This article presents a synopsis of the current data on the mechanisms of blood—brain barrier (BBB) alteration and autoimmune response in acute ischemic stroke. Most researchers confirm the relationship between the severity of immunobiochemical changes and clinical outcome of acute ischemic stroke. Ischemic stroke is accompanied by aseptic inflammation, which alters the brain tissue and exposes the co-stimulatory molecules of the immune system and the neuronal antigens. To date, BBB is not considered the border between the immune system and central nervous system, and the local immune subsystems are found within and behind the BBB. BBB disruption contributes to the leakage of brain autoantigens and induction of secondary autoimmune response to neuronal antigens and long-term inflammation. Glymphatic system function is altered and jeopardized both in hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke types. The receptors of innate immunity (toll-like receptor-2 and toll-like receptor-4) are also involved in acute ischemia—reperfusion injury. Immune response is related to the key processes of blood clotting and fibrinolysis. At the same time, the stroke-induced immune activation may promote reparation phenomena in the brain. Subsequent research on the reduction of the acute ischemic brain injury through the target regulation of the immune response is promising.

Emulsification for castor biomass oil

Dongxiang ZHANG, Yuanping LIN, Anmei LI, V. V. TARASOV

Frontiers of Chemical Science and Engineering 2011, Volume 5, Issue 1,   Pages 96-101 doi: 10.1007/s11705-010-0553-2

Abstract: The effect of the emulsifier formula on the stability of castor oil-water system was studied through compounding three groups of emulsifiers from the aspects of stability factor of absorbance, centrifuge stability, demulsification time in quiescence, appearance of the droplets, and viscosity. The best emulsifier formula for castor biomass oil was the composite formula of sorbitan monooleate and polyoxyethylene sorbitan monostearate. Correlation exists between the stability of emulsion and the viscosity/particle size of the droplets, with better stability in the case of greater viscosity or narrower distribution of particle size in the emulsion of castor oil-water system. Methanol added to the castor oil-water system may decrease the viscosity of the emulsion. Comparing the castor oil-water emulsion with methanol-castor oil-water emulsion, the optimal hydrophilic and lipophilic balance (HLB) value based on castor oil-water system was acquired between 6.6 and 7.5, while the optimal HLB value based on the methanol-castor oil-water system was between 5.5 and 6.0. The optimal HLB value of methanol-castor oil-water system gradually moved to that of castor oil-water emulsion with adding more water.
